You just need to save as much mercury as possible in each level since all the mercury you save goes into a game in the lab. In these games, you can try out any of the 16 levels in the current lab at any point, and you don't have to complete all the levels in the world in order to go on to the next one. In the original game, the requirements to proceed to the next puzzle were pretty stringent, but in this line, a lot of the restrictions have been let up in order to make it appeal to a much wider audience. Besides the graphical differences and the ability to change states, the Meltdown games also change the balance a bit. There are quite a few differences between the Meltdown versions and the original Mercury game. You will run into various walls and obstacles that will require you to change your blob into various colors or even make the mercury more or less solid by changing its temperature. Your job is to take as much of your blob in its mercury state across the game board and to the finish line. So, for those that have not had the chance to play a Mercury game yet, let's talk about the basic premise behind the series. ![]() This isn't to say that these levels aren't fun on the contrary, even though I was able to go through most of these levels pretty efficiently previously, didn't mean this time wasn't still fun and challenging. That is to say, you can play through the Astro, Bio, Electro, Geo, Atom, Aero and Hydro labs found in both games, plus you also get to play the previously PS2 exclusive Cryo Lab instead of the Chem one found in the two other versions. Instead of providing eight all new labs, instead we get a mix of the labs found in Mercury Meltdown and Remix. This game has eight labs (each containing 16 test tubes or levels). In total, there are more then 150 levels for you to try and beat, with each level getting progressively harder with every level beaten.Where Mercury Meltdown Revolution left me feeling a little deflated was the lack of new material. You will be rewarded by how well you pass the stage, like making sure you have 100% of mercury left, beating the level under a certain amount of time, collecting all of the items within the level and by getting a high score. In order to pass the stage, you must make sure that your mercury stays away from any dangers it might face. You often times find yourself breaking up your mercury into two different sections to mix and match the color you need in order to progress in the level. ![]() There are also painting areas within the game in order to change the mercury into a different color in order to get behind a certain point in the level. In future levels, you have to pass the level with all your mercury in tact (meaning that you can't let the mercury fall off the edge of the level). You start off in one Lab and as you progress in the game, more labs are unlocked the better you perform. Holding the Wiimote sideways, you tilt it in order to tilt the level in order to help your blob of mercury get to one area of the level to another. This time however, it uses the Wii controls wisely and also adds more levels then the portable game. ![]() Mercury Meltdown Revolution is a puzzle game based upon the first game of the series, Mercury Meltdown for the PSP.
